Tip #1 – Start with Good Skin Care

A great base is key to a successful outcome. While makeup can help hide those awful, unsightly imperfections, it is not a miracle worker! A flawless look starts with your own skin. Find a skin care regiment that keeps your skin hydrated and helps to clear up any problems you are having with acne. Healthy skin will greatly improve your appearance in BOTH your everyday look and in your photos.

Tip # 2 – Use the Right Type of Foundation

Important Fact: Not all mineral foundation is photo-friendly. Professional makeup artists, and even the creators of mineral makeup, will tell you that the ingredients in some products produce a light-reflecting sheen on the skin. When your photographer uses the flash on the camera, the end result is you looking a little ghostly.

• For oily skin; If you have an oily skin use a mattifying primer prior to application of your foundation. There are also great mattifying powders on the market to touch up your look throughout the day.
• For Dry Skin; Using a hydrating serum and Light layer of moisturiser to prime the skin. Then leaving this for a couple of minutes to allow the skin to absorb this before applying a hydrating primer and your foundation base. With drier skins, stick to a foundation that has more sheen and illuminating properties.

Tip #3 – Choose your Makeup Brand Carefully

Choose a line of products that has the right shade for your skin tone.

• Generalized foundations that just give a choice between light, medium and dark are not going to get the job done.
• Look for a brand that offers more of a variety of shades so that you can accurately choose a color that is closest to your skin tone.
• Also, look for a brand that carries additional products that you can use to complement your foundation.

Tip # 4 – Add More Colour

The main issue surrounding mineral makeup is the ashen look that can appear when flash photography is used. Besides using the right foundation, it is important to use other mineral products to prevent your skin from looking washed out. Adding subtle color will enhance your features, add a slightly darker tint to the skin and give you a polished, beautiful look.
